Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

In modern democracies, advertising plays a pivotal role in political campaigns by influencing voter perceptions and behaviors. In Wuse District, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), advertising has become a central tool for political parties and candidates to mobilize voters, disseminate campaign messages, and encourage voter turnout. Political advertising can shape voters' perceptions of candidates, policies, and the electoral process itself. According to Abubakar and Ibrahim (2023), political advertisements have a profound effect on voter behavior, as they often serve as a primary source of information for many voters. This study explores how advertising, particularly in the form of TV, radio, and social media campaigns, influences voter turnout in Wuse District during elections.
